Judicial Clerks

Judicial Clerks

"We know the unique perspective clerks bring with them - an insider's understanding of what motivates, and exasperates judges. That's an invaluable asset to a career at Patterson Belknap."
 Greg Diskant, Litigation Partner

Clerkships:
Hon. Thurgood Marshall, U.S. Supreme Court
Hon. J. Skelly Wright, District of Columbia Court

Patterson Belknap has Clerk Appeal

We highly value the challenges, responsibility and perspective that a judicial clerkship provides and attempt to ensure that both the clerk and the firm obtain the greatest possible benefit from the clerkship experience. For these reasons, among others, judicial clerks have always been attracted to our firm - almost half of our litigators are former clerks from federal District Courts, Courts of Appeals and the Supreme Court and from the highest courts of several states.

We expect our former law clerks to assume significant substantive responsibility for their cases. To help ensure that that happens, each year we limit the number of clerks we hire. Our classes generally fill up quickly, so if you are interested in our firm, we strongly encourage you to apply as early as possible.

"While I was conducting my job search during my clerkship, I spoke to a number of associates who stressed that Patterson Belknap was a great law firm to work at following a clerkship. The collegiality among the staff, associates, and partners and the value that the firm places on the clerkship experience and public service create an ideal environment for starting out at a new firm. That environment, coupled with the wide range of matters in which I have had an opportunity to participate, has contributed tremendously to my growth as a professional in the City."

Krista Adler, Litigation Associate (formerly law clerk to Hon. R. Guy Cole Jr., of the United States Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit.)
