Overview

Hugh Freund has more than 35 years of experience representing and counseling individuals in their business, personal, investment, estate planning, real estate and fiduciary matters.  Mr. Freund also has a considerable art law practice that includes the representation of private and public art galleries, dealers in both the primary and secondary art markets, visual artists (both painters and sculptors) and collectors. He also has advised commercial real estate developers with respect to agreements for large-scale indoor and outdoor sculpture commissions.

Mr. Freund’s broad-based real estate practice includes advising and representing prominent owners, developers and investors in sales, acquisitions, financings, joint ventures, real estate partnerships, development projects, syndications and conversion of properties to cooperative, condominium and homeowner association ownership forms.

Mr. Freund is currently a member of the Board of Overseers of The Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, a trustee of MASS MoCA, The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, Inc. and an Honorary Trustee of The Parrish Art Museum.  New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg nominated Mr. Freund to be a Director of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation through December 2012.  Mr. Freund, also at Mayor Bloomberg’s request, served as a Commissioner of The Art Commission of the City of New York through October 2006. 

Representative Matters

Provides a wide range of personal planning services to individual clients, including sophisticated estate planning and multi-generational tax planning, negotiation of pre- and post-nuptial agreements, creation of private and public charitable foundations, supervision of family advisors (including investment and accounting professionals), and creation of sophisticated family partnerships.

Represents numerous joint ventures and syndications in connection with the purchase, financing and development of commercial and residential real estate.
