Tom Kurland to Serve as Moderator on New York City Bar Association Panel

On Tuesday, May 10th, Counsel Tom Kurland, who is currently chair of the the Products Liability Committee of the New York City Bar, will serve as a moderator of a panel entitled "What a Nuisance: Opioids, Public Nuisance, and the Evolution of Mass Torts" that the Committee is presenting at the City Bar.

This panel will feature Brad Wendell, a torts professor from Cornell Law, Jayne Conroy, the lead opioid MDL plaintiff’s lawyer, and Steve Brody, J&J’s lead opioid counsel from O’Melveny. The panelists will discuss the legal framework and application of the public nuisance doctrine and examine the varying outcomes when utilizing this tool through the lens of the opioid litigation. With this discussion, the panel will set out to recount the evolution of public nuisance doctrine and explore the future of its applicability to mass torts.
