Jake Perkowski is an Associate in the Firm’s Litigation department.  From 2015 to 2016, Mr. Perkowski served as a law clerk to the Hon. Matthew F. Leitman of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.  Prior to his clerkship, Mr. Perkowski practiced in the New York office of a large international law firm.

Representative Matters

Represents financial guaranty insurers in suits against banks that sponsored and originated residential mortgage-backed securities.

Advises investors in connection with potential claims arising from structured finance transactions, including analysis of rights and remedies under transaction documents and assessment of claims seeking repurchase of collateral.

Represented not-for-profit organization in dispute over purchase of highly valued asset. 

Represented not-for-profit organization in connection with response to data security incident.

Represented a beverage manufacturer in putative false-advertising class action in federal court involving ingredient labeling. 

Pro Bono

Served as co-lead trial counsel in federal jury trial for client formerly incarcerated at Rikers Island asserting excessive force claims against four individual correction officers. 

Represented civil rights organization in First Amendment challenge to donor disclosure laws targeting not-for-profit organizations. 

Filed an amicus brief on behalf of civil rights organizations regarding confidentiality protections.
