Patterson Belknap Launches Securities Litigation Insider Blog

January 11, 2022

Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP today announced the launch of Securities Litigation Insider, a blog covering a wide range of topics relevant to securities litigation, including notable developments such as U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) enforcement, SEC rulemaking, securities class actions, and developments in blockchain and crypto-asset regulation, among other areas.

Initial blog posts include analyses of the SEC Enforcement Division’s priorities for 2022, the SEC’s current approach to penalties, potential regulation of family offices, and recent developments in cybersecurity enforcement. Future blog posts will address the SEC’s evolving approach to crypto-asset regulation, proposals concerning Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosures, developments in SPAC regulation and litigation, U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) priorities, and other hot-button securities-related issues.

Blog content will be authored by an interdisciplinary group of litigation and corporate attorneys. Patterson Belknap’s Securities Litigation practice is chaired by H. Gregory Baker, a former senior counsel for the SEC, who has extensive experience investigating and litigating securities laws violations. In addition to Mr. Baker, the blog will be edited by Patterson Belknap litigation partner James Masella, who has more than 25 years of experience representing clients in complex securities litigation. Mr. Baker and Mr. Masella have experience defending clients in investigations conducted by the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Securities Litigation Insider will provide content focused not only on securities litigation and class actions, but also cutting-edge developments and hot topics in the securities space,” noted Mr. Baker. “As we developed the blog, our goal was to provide readers with timely updates and thoughtful in-depth analyses on a broad range of developments in SEC regulation and enforcement affecting a wide variety of companies and industries.”
