Firm Attorneys Honored by Legal Services Organizations

On Monday, October 28, 2019 Patterson Belknap was honored to be one of the recipients of The Legal Aid Society’s 2019 Pro Bono Publico Awards for outstanding service to The Legal Aid Society and its clients. In addition to recognizing the Firm, The Legal Aid Society honored many individual attorneys and staff with Pro Bono Publico awards for providing exceptional legal services to low-income New Yorkers. Firm honorees included: Karen R. Berry, Lorri Emanu, Eugene M. Gelernter, and Lisa Wang.

On Thursday, October 24, 2019, the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA) recognized Patterson Belknap attorneys Jacqueline L. Bonneau, Emma Ellman-Golan, Alvin Li and Lewis V. Popovski for their substantial pro bono contributions to NYCLA’s State Central Registry, Clemency, and Veterans Discharge Upgrade projects.

On Thursday, October 17, 2019, Christina Seda-Acosta was named Volunteer of the Year at the TEAK Fellowship Annual Gala. TEAK’s mission is to unlock access to outstanding education and transformative experiences for exceptional New York City students, who use these opportunities to change their lives and the world around them.

On Thursday, October 17, 2019, Partner Jonah M. Knobler was honored as a “Defender of Democracy” by Common Cause for “the critical role he played on the pro bono legal team that brought Rucho v. Common Cause, a lawsuit before the U.S. Supreme Court challenging North Carolina’s congressional map as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander.” Additionally, Jonah, along with Patterson Belknap Of Counsel Gregory L. Diskant “worked with Common Cause to write and file amicus briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court Gill v. Whitford  (partisan gerrymandering) and Evenwel v. Abbott (consideration of noncitizens in redistricting).” Common Cause is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to upholding the core values of American democracy.
