Former Partner Paul Gardephe Confirmed as a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York

June 14, 2008

We are pleased to congratulate our colleague and friend, Paul Gardephe, on his confirmation as a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York.

After graduation from law school, Paul served as a law clerk to the Hon. Albert J. Engel, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, before joining Patterson Belknap as an associate. He then went on to spend nine years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, serving for three years as Chief Appellate Attorney of the Criminal Division. On behalf of the Attorney General and the House and Senate Intelligence Committees, he led major Department of Justice reviews of the FBI’s performance in detecting the espionage of CIA officer Aldrich Ames and FBI Special Agent Robert Hanssen. In 1996, he joined Time Inc., where he served as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel. Paul rejoined Patterson Belknap as a partner in 2003.

Paul's appointment continues the long tradition of public service by Patterson Belknap attorneys, and we wish him well as he takes his seat on this distinguished Bench.
