Firm Expands White Collar and Investigations Group with Second Former Prosecutor to Join Ranks This Month

NEW YORK, NY – September 14, 2009. Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP is pleased to announce that Joshua A. Goldberg, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has become Counsel to the firm, joining the Litigation Department and the White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice Team.

Mr. Goldberg will focus his practice on white collar defense, securities fraud and internal investigations. He joins the firm after serving eight years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, most recently as a member of the Southern District’s Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force. In this role, Mr. Goldberg investigated and prosecuted complex white-collar cases under the federal securities laws involving securities fraud, accounting fraud, market manipulation, investment adviser fraud, insider trading and commercial bribery.

Mr. Goldberg joined the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2001, after three years as an associate in Patterson Belknap’s Litigation group. As a prosecutor, he tried 15 criminal cases to verdict and briefed and argued numerous appeals before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. He was awarded the Department of Justice Director’s Award for Superior Performance in 2002.

Mr. Goldberg received his J.D. magna cum laude in 1997 from New York University School of Law, where he was an Associate Editor of the New York University Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. He received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin in 1992. Following law school graduation, Mr. Goldberg clerked for the Hon. Barbara S. Jones in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
