Patterson Belknap Launches New Podcast: “Judicial Clerkships: Perspectives on Value, Experience and Diversity”

September 14, 2020

Today the Firm announced the launch of “Judicial Clerkships: Perspectives on Value, Experience and Diversity,” a new podcast that aims to demystify the judicial clerkship application process and expand the pipeline of diverse applicants for these coveted positions.

Judicial clerkships have long been viewed as an ideal way for law school graduates and lawyers to build upon their legal training and immerse themselves in the litigation process. It is not always easy to get the inside scoop on why clerkships are beneficial, though, or how to apply for and secure one. With this in mind, Patterson Belknap has developed this podcast to shed light on the process.

“Judicial Clerkships: Perspectives on Value, Experience and Diversity” will feature discussions with current and former Patterson Belknap partners and associates from a variety of backgrounds, all of whom served as judicial clerks. They will provide diverse perspectives on their experiences, and explain why a law student or lawyer might decide to apply for (and how they can benefit from) a clerkship. The podcast will also explore the logistics around the application process, including some of the steps that law school graduates and lawyers can take to better position themselves for success.

Peter C. Harvey, co-chair of Patterson Belknap’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee noted, “At Patterson Belknap, we understand the value of diversity and recognize that our Firm is enhanced by the unique characteristics of our colleagues. Each person brings different ideas and experiences to the table, which results in creative solutions and the best possible results for our clients. With the majority of our litigators having previously held judicial clerkships, we encourage and support diversity in clerkships because we understand how the profession—and the courtroom—are enriched by these different personal perspectives.”
