Patterson Belknap Named Benchmark Litigation’s 2023 “New York Firm of the Year” and “Impact Case” Award Winner
Patterson Belknap has been recognized by Benchmark Litigation as the “New York Firm of the Year” in its 12th annual U.S. Awards. According to Benchmark, these awards “recognize the nation’s top litigators and their firms for their exemplary work over the past twelve months.” They “are the culmination of months' research, analyzing hundreds of submissions, surveying thousands of referees and interviewing hundreds of lawyers.” The firm was previously awarded Benchmark’s New York Firm of the Year in 2021.
In its profile of the firm, Benchmark Litigation notes, “Operating out of a single office in Manhattan, Patterson Belknap elicits resounding praise from a vocal contingent of peers and clients, the likes of which are usually reserved for a national firm. A client extols, ‘Patterson Belknap is a premier litigation firm, with a deep bench of talented first-chair trial attorneys, who are supported by the brightest associates.’”
In addition, Patterson Belknap was awarded a 2023 “Impact Case of the Year” award for its representation of Appian Corp. in Appian Corp. v. Pegasystems, Inc. In May 2022, a Virginia Court found that Pegasystems willfully and maliciously misappropriated Appian’s trade secrets, and additionally violated the Virginia Computer Crimes Act. Pegasystems was ordered to pay Appian over $2 billion in damages as well as $23.6 million in attorneys’ fees, the full amount that Appian had requested.
The Benchmark Litigation awards ceremony was held on March 15 in New York City. A full list of the 2023 award winners can be found here.
