On April 30 and May 1, Partner John Sare and Counsel Stephanie Bunting Glaser will be speaking at ALI CLE's 2025 Legal Issues in Museum Administration, the go-to conference for museum professionals and their legal counsel, offering in-depth guidance on the critical legal and business issues impacting museums today.
On April 30 at 2:00pm, Mr. Sare will speak on a panel titled "Modernizing Philanthropy: Navigating Cy Pres and Gift Modifications." He will join Lauren Curry (Deputy City Attorney, Office of City Attorney, San Francisco) and Sara Geelan (Deputy Director, General Counsel and Assistant Secretary, The Barnes Foundation) to provide an overview of the cy pres process, discuss recent cases, and offer practical tips to avoid needing court relief. At 3:00pm, he will be speaking on a panel titled "Board Governance: Best Practices." He will join Rhea Gordon (Senior Vice President and General Counsel, American Museum of Natural History) and H. Sujin Kim (Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Secretary, The Metropolitan Museum of Art) for a discussion of museum and nonprofit governance -- from revisiting foundational documents to navigating Board engagement to revamping policies, procedures and practices.
On May 1 at 9:00am, Ms. Glaser will speak on a panel titled "Evolving Copyright: Updates on AI, Fair Use, and More." She will join Emily Lanza (Senior Counsel, U.S. Copyright Office) and Margot Stokol (Assistant General Counsel, J. Paul Getty Trust) to review the U.S. Copyright Office's AI and copyright initiative and discuss the latest copyright concerns impacting museum counsel.
