On February 8 and 9, Patterson Belknap Managing Partner Dahlia Doumar, and Partners John Sare and Susan Vignola will be speaking at University of Texas School of Law's 41st Annual Nonprofit Organizations Institute. UT CLE's Nonprofit Organizations Institute features nationally recognized experts from private foundations, public charities, law, finance, and government discussing the latest tax, legislative, and governance issues affecting nonprofit organizations.
John Sare will speak on a panel titled "MASTER CLASS: UPMIFA and Endowments" on February 8 at 3:15pm. Mr. Sare will join Jamie S. Cantara (Executive Director of Finance, Endowment Services & Gift Compliance, The University of Texas at Austin) to discuss standards for investment and spending prudence under UPMIFA and common endowment spending practices used by institutions.
Dahlia Doumar will speak on a panel titled "Revenue Generating Activities: Financing Structures and Mechanisms, Tax Credits, and More" on February 9 at 10:50am. Ms. Doumar will be joined by David A. Levitt (Principal, Adler & Colvin), Jorge Lopez (Senior Associate General Counsel, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation), and Ruth M. Madrigal (Principal, KPMG LLP) to explore how credits and incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act can create opportunities for financing charitable activity and traps for the unwary. On February 9 at 11:40am, Ms. Doumar will speak on another program, titled "Revenue Generating Activities: Investing as a Charitable Activity, Collaborations and Joint Ventures." She will be joined by the same panelists to discuss issues to consider when nonprofit and for-profit institutions work together on program- and mission-related investments.
Susan Vignola will speak in a session titled "MASTER CLASS: Navigating Intellectual Property Issues for Nonprofits" on February 9 at 10:50am. Ms. Vignola will join Gene Park (Partner, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP) to provide an overview of different kinds of intellectual property and discuss common issues faced by nonprofits when addressing intellectual property issues.
