On Friday, February 2, Of Counsel Robert J. Cleary will speak on a panel at the IBA "When Arbitration Meets Crime" conference in São Paulo Brazil, titled "Is crime the solution? Criminal issues as artillery against arbitral awards." Mr. Cleary will be joined by international lawyers Karina Goldberg (Partner, Ferro Castro Neves Daltro & Gomide, Brazil), Marta Saad (Partner, Huck Otranto Camargo, Brazil), and Thierry Tomasi (Partner, Herbert Smith Freehills, France). Together they will discuss the tactic of using criminal law and processes to disrupt arbitral proceedings, how criminal conduct can jeopardize arbitration, and the potential consequences of annulment of an arbitral award tainted with fraud.
