Partner Bill Cavanaugh Represents Lead State Plaintiffs Colorado and Nebraska in Google Monopoly Search Lawsuit

On Tuesday September 12, Patterson Belknap Partner Bill Cavanaugh delivered the opening statement on behalf of a coalition of the Attorneys General from 38 states and other jurisdictions in the trial of a historic monopoly antitrust lawsuit against Google involving its search engine. 

On Monday, October 30, in the eighth week of the trial, Bill and other Justice Department attorneys, conducted a cross-examination of Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai.

Bill was appointed by the Attorneys General of Colorado and Nebraska, the lead plaintiffs in the states' case, to serve as lead trial counsel. He is a former official in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.

The trial is being widely covered by major news sources including the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. The case is being referenced as “the biggest antitrust case of the modern digital era.”
