Prior to joining Patterson Belknap, I had worked on a transaction with a woman partner at the firm who was held in incredibly high esteem by her peers, and with her mentee, a senior associate who seemed experienced beyond his years. My exposure to these attorneys offered me insight into the caliber of mentorship I might receive at Patterson Belknap. Intrigued, I did some research into Patterson Belknap and its reputation and quickly learned that these two attorneys were not an exception but a rule at Patterson.
I am the youngest attorney in my practice group, and each person in my group serves as a mentor to me. I am comfortable approaching each of them with any question I might have. Even as a young associate, it is easy to approach partners when they have only ever been helpful to you. In fact, many of the most impactful mentoring moments I have experienced have included conversations initiated by senior colleagues. They have invested considerable time and attention to not only revise, but then patiently explain their markups to my work, which has made me a better drafter and client advisor. This, in conjunction with being assigned a meaningful and wide range of interesting work, undoubtedly helps me progress in my career much faster than I personally believe would be possible elsewhere. I am immeasurably grateful.
